"If it wasn’t for us young volunteers, this place wouldn’t work!"
David, 17
At Salmon, we know that young people have as much to offer as anyone else. Each year around 30 young people give up their spare time to volunteer in youth clubs at Salmon – why?
- To make a difference to the lives of young people
Because young leaders are closer in age to the young people coming to clubs, often young people prefer to come to them for advice and support. - To gain responsibility and work experience
"A lot of young people my age don’t get trusted with any responsibility in their lives, but at Salmon we get to have responsibility as young volunteers and understand the way the working world works."
Lorelle, 18 - To learn new skills
As a young leader we can train you in all kinds of activities, for example music technology and rock climbing – and then you get to pass on those skills to others. - To make new friends
Young leaders go on trips and residentials together and have monthly socials. - To have fun!
If you’re aged 14 and over and interested in becoming a young leader, talk to Miranda!
