Free Learning Resource DVD for Youth clubs and organisations in Southwark
12 young people took part in the project and with the assistance of professional trained directors from the Film / TV industry, they created a 28minute Film Drama based around sex and relationships. The Film Project Entitled ‘CHOICES’, explores issues around unprotected sex, peer pressure, faith, jealousy, envy, STI’s,Teenage pregnancy etc. In April 2011 ‘CHOICES’ was nominated by the UK Film Industry to be viewed at the BAFTA awards in Leicester Square and there was an official Launch of the film to Youth Providers and professionals from the Southwark Health Services at Shortwave Cinema in June 2011.
1. Why the dvd was produced:
Last year, Young people from the Salmon Youth Centre received funding from Media Box (Film Company) to produce a film which raises awareness about some of the issues young people face in their community.
2. Who is it targeted at:
Young people aged 14 +
3. Synopsis about the film;
Sophia, is a young teenager growing up in South London, where she experiences the harsh life of a teenager. Sophia, a young Christian with a religious lifestyle, faces youth culture at its worst, with peer pressure, sex and general teen adolescence; putting Sophia’s religion to the test. What she doesn’t realise is that the choices she makes now will affect her for the rest of her life.
4. How can Youth Clubs and organisations get a copy:
The Salmon Youth Centre currently has ‘Free’ copies of the ‘CHOICES’ DVD on offer to Schools and Youth organisations in Southwark.Although the DVD is Free, we are asking schools /organisations for monetary donations which will go towards funding our next Film Project.Also, we would appreciate any feedback about the Film for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
