When reading newspapers, you might get the idea that there is little positive to say about young people. Headlines are dominated by stories of knife crime, school exclusions, drug and alcohol abuse and teenage pregnancies...
Like our newspapers, we could come up with an impressive list of challenges and problems faced by young people in our local area.
It is true that many are living within problematic families and experience low expectations, unemployment and criminality. On the outside they might appear confident and cocky, but digging a little deeper can reveal a real lack of confidence in their own ability and self-worth.
At Salmon, we believe that there is more to young people than problems and difficulties. On a daily basis, we witness stories that defy the headlines. We see young people achieving incredible things: whether it’s finding the courage to scale a climbing wall, taking a lead role in a play, or going for that job interview…
Do you believe this too? There are many ways for you to get involved with the Salmon Youth Centre!
