Project work at Salmon is split into four key areas: Detached & Outreach Work, Disability Work, Health Advice, and Youth Inclusion Work.
Project work takes place through our thirty-five clubs from Monday to Saturday during term time and holidays. The club programmes provide a great opportunity for youth workers to engage young people and build positive and meaningful relationships. One of our tools to measure this is the Salmon Cone, where staff are able to record outcomes of young people through Sport and Leisure activities, involvement in the Arts, and Personal, Social & Spiritual development.
Some of the projects’ aims are to:
- Engage with young people in schools and colleges.
- Provide accreditation and certificates to young people and stage end-of-season events to celebrate and recognise their achievements.
- Identify young people who would benefit from trips and residentials.
- Increase youth participation (primarily through the Salmon Youth Forum, where young people can join up and take part in making decisions about youth activities at Salmon).
- Create volunteering opportunities for young people.
- Establish partnership links and work alongside other youth providers and organisations within the public/private sector. The Youth Providers' Network provides a forum to meet and share/update information on new or existing opportunities for young people in Southwark.
