Inclusion is a supportive programme for young offenders between the ages of 12-17 sponsored by the LYO (London Youth Offer) and working in partnership with the YOT (Youth Offending Team). The initiative helps young people get their life back on track.

At Salmon we work with a strong team of key workers who engage on a one to one basis with young offenders. This includes bringing the young people together as a group to participate in social events and trips, helping the young people to build their confidence. Discussion-centred sessions allow young people to connect and reflect on their situation.

This group is now in its second year of running at Salmon. While most of the young people in the inclusion group are referred to us by the YOT, members of the Salmon Youth Centre also have access to this provision. Workers have found that by supporting the families of young offenders we can uproot the problems and help them move on with their lives.

"I feel that young offenders deserve a second chance to change their life around and should always be aware and take advantage of these supportive programmes that are put in place. Because it’s not about rehabilitation – it’s about opportunities; changing one’s mindset and taking charge of your life."
